Sotogrande
Sotogrande was established in 1962 by Joseph McMicking and American property developer with the vision of turning the area into one of Europe’s leading luxury resort destinations. Now covering more than 20 square kilometres the area is home to around 2,500 permanent residents, with large number of holiday homes the population grows significantly the holiday seasons.
Famous for its unrivalled amenities the area is home to the Santa Maria Polo and Sotogrande Equestrian clubs. In addition, there are five world class golf courses in the area the most famous being Valderama Golf Club which has been home to the Ryder Cup.
Sotogrande marina adds another element of exclusivity, built in 1987 and accessed by large tree lined avenues the numerous luxury apartment developments back up onto their own exclusive private mooring spaces.
At the heart of marina you will find a wide array of restaurants and bars catering for various tastes from Spanish to International cuisine. An all year round destination, Sotogrande also thrives during the winter months with many major regattas and sailing events that attract visitors for far afield.
Easily accessed by Gibraltar International airport, Sotogrande has retained its exclusivity over the years and whilst not only popular with Spanish and International tourists the area is also known as the commuter belt for a number of wealthy individuals who work in Gibraltar.
Alcaidesa & San Roque
Alcaidesa is located at the far west of the Costa del Sol and is easily accessible from all locations along the coast via the AP7 toll motorway or the original coast road A7 (N340).
Originally constructed in the 1990s, the golf course has undergone further development and is now the most renowned Links course in Southern Spain, benefitting from stunning views across the Mediterranean to North Africa and directly over the Rock of Gibraltar.
The Alcaidesa golf resort has hosted two Andalucian PGA tournaments and Ryder cup junior matches. Perched in a privileged location, just 15 minutes from Gibraltar airport and set in an area of low density construction and natural beauty.
Residential property prices in the area are highly competitive compared with more traditional tourist destinations of the Costa del Sol, with properties mainly based within the private grounds or perimeters of the golf courses.
Ideal for holiday homes and property investment there are three large quiet beaches close by Playa Hacienda, Playa Alcaidesa and Playa Torrecarboneria and the popular tourist destination of Tarifa is also a short distance by car.
Shopping centres are close to hand in La Linea and for those looking for more traditional British shops a short drive across the border to Gibraltar provides an array of supermarkets and shopping facilities.
