Casares is a picture postcard village with a population of just under six thousand residents. Set inland from Casares Costa and just West of Estepona, Casares municipality has seen a dramatic transformation over the past decade, with new world class golf courses and residential urbanisations being constructed in the area, such as Valderama and Dona Julia golf resorts.
The unspoilt beaches offer a more traditional natural feel, however, in recent years more upmarket beach clubs and hotels have emerged on the coastline, bringing with them a more upmarket level of cliental.
Casares Village is a popular tourist destination with traditional cobbled streets and a variety of homely restaurants offering Andalusian Cuisine, the Village is particularly renowned for its view point and panoramic views.
Steeped in tradition the 12th century Castle, around which grew the present town center, was founded by the occupying Moors in 1361. Julius Caesar is even renowned to have visited the Spa of Hedionda and was cured of a liver complaint due to the sulfuric waters that still pour out from the local spring.
Property prices in Casares are still undergoing re-adjustment and offer some exceptional bargains for the price conscious buyer. However, with increasing demand and sales levels, this is set to be a short lived opportunity.
