Estepona once a small fishing village is now a bustling community and tourist destination located West of San Pedro in the direction of Algeceiras. Whilst being very popular with visitors, Estepona has retained all of its local Spanish charm and offers a more traditional holiday experience, however Estepona is a short drive from the glamorous neighbouring areas of Marbella and Puerto Banus. Estepona town is located approximately 25Km west of Marbella and is approximately 45 minutes drive from Málaga International Airport. The municipality of Estepona stretches from where San Pedro meets Benahavis on the A7, near the Guadalmina river to the entrance of Sabanillas. Estepona has a municipal area of 137 km2 which comprises of varied landscapes with gentle slopes ridged by a dozen streams and small rivers. Nature lovers can enjoy excursions to the Pedregales Park or the Sierra Bermeja mountain range.
Estepona is over 500 years old and is the area is steeped in history - some of the most impressive monuments are: the ruins of the Nicio Castle, the seven Beacon Towers which proudly stand along the coastline, the remains of the San Luis Castle, the los Remedios Church (18th century), and the original Bullring, which offers five museums.
The local Marina is a very pleasant place for a stroll or dining and there are some magnificent boats moored here. There are also a wide variety of excellent bars and restaurants, open both midday and in the evening while younger revellers can enjoy the late night disco bars. There is a popular tourist market on a Sunday morning offering a wide range of goods. The sandy coast of Estepona spreads along more than 21 km! Offering a series of fantastic beaches with secluded coves, rocky zones with cliffs - which form beautiful sea landscapes, and wide areas of sand to relax and enjoy. Popular blue flag beaches include La Rada, El Cristo, Baha Dorada and the natural beach of Costa Natura, among many others.
The “Old Town” of Estepona offers a true taste of Spain with a variety of traditional fish restaurants preparing freshly caught delicacies, tapas bars and hearty steak grills all centred around the Plaza de Naranjos or Orange Square – aptly named due to its abundance of orange trees. The Congress Palace of Estepona is an exhibition centre offering various activities organised by the town hall and private businesses. An area of more than 3000 m2 adapts its facilities to cater for a wide range of events from exhibitions and conventions to fashion shows, concerts, sports events and festivals. The diversity of Estepona appeals to all ages and has resulted in the area becoming one of the most established tourist destinations on the Costa Del Sol.
The “Golden Mile” has long been the nickname for the stretch of road that links Marbella old town to Puerto Banus. The area is renowned for its exclusive real estate, restaurants and hotels including Marbella Club and Puente Romano to name a few! What is less well known is that the area has an emerging competitor known as the “New Golden Mile” that links Guadalmina to the entrance to Estepona, which is lined with exclusive five star hotels, beach resorts & world class golf courses. Whilst benefitting from the local Spanish charm that is identified with Estepona the New Golden mile offers a range of five star amenities that rival only those located on its original predecessor in Marbella.
